The Rausings' £12bn fortune, which stems from inheriting one-third each of their grandfather's Switzerland-based packaging group Tetra Laval as well as other investments, has dropped by £1bn from last year, when they occupied seventh on the list. The property tycoons, who also teamed up with Saudi investors and the British financier Amanda Staveley and own a ten per cent stake in football team Newcastle United, were not the only prominent names from the world of horseracing to make the top ten, with owner-breeder and Jockey Club member Kirsten Rausing appearing in ninth with her brother Jorn.
The brothers, who own 16 racecourses and four greyhound tracks under the Arc banner, increased their net worth by £800 million in the last year to £22.265 billion. The billionaire owners of Arena Racing Company, David and Simon Reuben, have dropped from second to third in the new Sunday Times Rich List.
